Wigton fielded a XV which was well down on lead players but the Wanderers players who stepped up all did the club proud through their performances, contributing to an entertaining though ultimately, unsuccessful attempt to secure a second away victory for the season.

The lead players who were fit to play were starting their 3rd match in 7 days - and hats off to them for manning up - there were some tired boys by 4.30pm!!!

Wigton started the brighter and took an early lead but it was a purple patch from Leigh in the middle of the game which set them up for victory.

The Greens fought right to the end, pulling back 2 tries in the final 15 minutes.

2 mins - Ryan Clark try (60 m run) and Tom Gardner conversion 7 - 0
4 mins - Converted Leigh try 7 - 7
10 mins - Leigh penalty 7 - 10
14 mins - Leigh try 7 - 15
23 mins - Fergus Ledingham try (Line break) and Tom conversion
14 - 15
30 mins - John Story try (25 m driving maul) plus Tom conversion 21 - 15
39/42 mins - 2 converted Leigh tries 21 - 29

Half time

44 mins - Unconverted Leigh try 21 - 34
55 mins - Converted Leigh try 21 - 41
60 mins - Leigh try 21 - 46
65 mins - Will Miller try (Strong 25 m run to line) Bonus point! 26 - 46
70 mins - Converted Leigh try 26 - 53
76 mins - Sub Gregg Smith converted his own try 33 - 53

Fortunately no further serious injuries sustained on the day though Rob Marrs, Tom Gardner, John Story and Scott Smith all had to take time out for treatment/Assessment during the game.

Once again the travelling supporters were fantastic and comfortably made up at least 50% of the crowd! They voted full back Ryan Clark as their M O M in a close vote with Fergus, Jacko and John.

Andy Stevens who played 50 minutes at prop was the 41st player to represent 1ST XV in league rugby this season and Akky aka 118 118 won the Fancy dress!
