Wigton travelled to the grave yard with expectations of a good result but soon into the game realised that it wasn't going to be as fortuitous as they thought.
Upper Eden kicked off with the wind behind them and used the advantage keeping Wigton pinned down in their 22. Wigton's defence held firm for a sustained period of pressure but was broken down and the Upper Eden no. 10 crossed the line for the first score of the day.
Wigton managed to string a hand full of phases together before a mistake and Upper Eden kicked down field. Scrambling back, Wigton secured the ball and moved it to the short side where Ollie Lewis found some space and went 65 meters to score under the posts.
The hosts crossed next after a good carry from the no. 8 who managed to get them on the front foot from a retreating scrum all day. The ball was fired from right to left across the width of the pitch to score in the corner. Half time 12-7.
The second half didn't start any better with Wigton missing a tackle and Upper Eden heading up the pitch. The ball was turned over and Wigton relieved the pressure. Upper Edens line out, a quick maul and the ball was released - the quality of the handling showed again with every pass in front of the man, running straight, from depth - they scored in the corner to make it 19-7.
Wigtons pack were really on top in the scrum and after Upper Eden were penalised the man in the middle had no option but to award a penalty try - 19-14 - and Wigton were back in the game! Unfortunately it was short lived as a Upper Eden scored next making it 24-14 .
Wigton did manage to score again and after some strong carries down the middle Bomber managed to cross in the corner - 24 19. But with little time left on the clock and a few decisions leaving many people with a bemused look, Wigton just couldn't get a grip on the game being penalised heavily in the last 10 minutes.
With a final penalty awarded to the hosts, they chose to take the 3 meaning no bonus point for Wigton and removing any chance of the victory. Final score 27-19.
