Martin Tickner and Alan Lynch add their notes...

Wigton made the long trip to Littleborough hoping to build on last week's victory over Oldham. Once again there were a number of enforced changes to the squad.

Wigton started brightly and as early as the 2nd minute the home team were penalised for offside, unfortunately Ryan Clarks penalty kick sailed past the uprights. Nevertheless, Wigton spoiled a home line out in their own 22 but as the ball was moved along the backs, the ball was intercepted allowing the Littleborough backs to race through the Wigton defence, it looked like Wigton had held up the attack, however, the ball was recycled giving Littleborough a simple try under the posts and the hosts led 7-0.

Littleborough were back on the attack straight from the kick off and only a knock on prevented a second try. Unfortunately during this attack Ryan Clark suffered a nasty eye injury and left the field unable to continue.

On 16 minutes Wigton got themselves back into the game with Dan Reed kicking a penalty. This was short lived and almost immediately Littleborough were back on the attack and a number of missed tackles allowed the home side a second try under the posts for a 14-3 lead. The lead was reduced with a Dan Reed penalty following a high tackle. On 38 minutes Littleborough extended their lead with a converted try and a penalty on the stroke of half time gave them a comfortable cushion of 24-6.

Littleborough continued to dominate the early periods of the second half and it wasn't long before they had scored a 4th and bonus point try which was converted. There was no let up in pressure before Littleborough had scored a 5th unconverted try putting the game out of Wigtons reach. However, the Wigton heads never dropped and were now having their best period of play and were rewarded with two late unconverted tries by Lindsay Walker and Aron Henderson, the final score being 36-16 in favour of the hosts.
