Wigton set the early pace with lots of good possession and after only 8 minutes, a good period of passing play along the backs stretched the Silloth defence, the ball was taken inside to the forwards and a great offload brought the 1st try with Stuart Creighton touching down between the posts, Gregg Smith converted to give Wigton an early 7-0 lead.
An excellent kick from Gregg Smith deep into the Silloth half resulted in Wigton's 2nd try after their own line out was fumbled with Jay Henderson picking up the knock on to touch down, the conversion was missed but the lead had been extended to 12-0 on 17 minutes. On 27 minutes a Silloth centre left the field following a high tackle. Wigton opted for a scrum in which they were totally dominant all afternoon, the ball was quickly passed out for Stephen Harris to touch down for an unconverted try and Wigton led 22-0. Two minutes later Wigton had secured a bonus point point try after the forwards drove the Silloth pack backwards with Stuart Creighton touching down for his second and Wigtons 4th try.
On the stroke of half time a clever chip over the defence by Dan Reed saw Gregg Smith collecting the ball for an easy try in the corner. The half time whistle blew and Wigton were ahead by 27-0 through some great handling and very few mistakes.
Wigton started the second with a great turnover by Richard Moffatt but the move broke down short of the line. A few errors started to creep into Wigtons game and Silloth seized the opportunity to get themselves back into the game. The Silloth forwards pushed towards the Wigton line and were awarded a dubious try despite a forward pass followed by a knock on. A simple conversion reduced the arrears to 27-7.
Wigton were creating a lot opportunities but the consistency shown in the first half had deserted them and several chances were spurned. However, on 65 minutes a superb break from one side of the pitch to the other saw Peter Dobson breaking through to score Wigtons 6th try, Smith converted to give Wigton a 34-7 lead. Four minutes later Silloth claimed their second try and despite Wigton still pushing forward with a number of scrums in the Silloth 22m, they were unable to trouble the scoreboard and the game finished with a comfortable 34-7 victory.
