Martin Tickner reports back from a busy day out!

Wigton travelled to already relegated Ashton-under-Lyne and recorded their best away result for many seasons scoring 15 tries in the process.

Within 2 minutes Kevin Robinson collected a pass and ran straight through the Ashton defence to score Wigton's first try - closely followed by a similar move and Ralph Johnston showed no hesitation in crossing the line on 4 minutes, both conversions were kicked by Dan Reed and Wigton led 14-0.

Every time Wigton passed the ball a try looked inevitable and this was a recurring pattern throughout the game. Further tries on 7 and 11 minutes by Colin Sessford and Ralph Johnston secured the bonus point for Wigton. The Ashton defence were no match for a dominant Wigton team with an Owen Bonney try and a second try for Kevin Robinson on 15 and 17 minutes giving Wigton a 36-0 lead.

Finally, Ashton who never gave up were rewarded with a converted try on 27 minutes following a clever kick to the corner which their winger gathered to touch down. Normal service was quickly resumed with 3 further tries by Owen Bonney, Stephen Harris and Elliot Armstrong before half time two of which were converted by Dan Reed and the half time score was 55-7.

Coach Mark Lee brought on all 3 replacements at half time without disrupting the momentum and Wigton continued to play flowing rugby resulting in 2 more tries by Ralph Johnston plus tries from Robert Marrs, Colin Sessford and Richard Moffatt before man of the match Alex Johnston wrapped up the game with the final try and Wigton had recorded an incredible 15 tries and 7 conversions to win 91-7.

Ashton may be at the bottom of the league but they never gave up, however, Wigton were just too powerful in every department and delivered a first class performance.
