Wigton returned to winning ways with a comfortable 29-0 victory over West Cumbrian neighbours Whitehaven.
The match was marred by heavy rain and cold winds which spoiled Wigton's normal free running game as numerous dropped balls from both sides broke up the continuity of the game.
Wigton took a 3 nil lead after only 4 minutes following an offside infringement by a Whitehaven player, Jonny Charters kicked a simple penalty in front of the posts. On 16 minutes, WIgton won their own line out and the forwards drove towards the line with Stuart Creighton touching down for his first try, the conversion was missed but the lead was now 8-0.
Wigton were in total control of the game and following a superb passage of play Richard Moffatt touched down for the second try of the game easily converted by Jonny Charters. The home team extended their lead with a terrific move by the backs created by fly half Dave Hanabury and finished off by the same player beneath the posts, Charters kicked the conversion and the half team lead was now 22-0.
On 57 minutes the Wigton forwards who dominated the game throughout once again took control at the line out and the pack with man of the match Russell McLean leading the charge drove over the line with Stuart Creighton claiming his second and more importantly the bonus point try, Charters kicked the conversion for the final points of the match with WIgton winning 29-0.
Despite the awful conditions Wigton were in control and deserved this victory and now look forward to next week's match at local rivals SIlloth.
