Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship!!

A team from the U8’s and U7’s travelled to Newcastle Falcon’s to take part in a tag festival at the weekend. The festival preceded the Harlequin’s game which many stayed on to watch.

The festival was very well organised and saw youth teams from across the north of England represented. The format was a group round robin and all teams got at least 4 games. The pitch was divided up to allow around 10 games to be played concurrently.
We had just enough players in the end with the dreaded sickness bug playing last minute havoc. It was a fantastic experience for the youngsters to get to play on the Falcon’s first team pitch which is a composite “4G” synthetic AstroTurf. The only downside is that there is no mud to roll about in!!

The teams did themselves proud and are really starting to develop well. Ball handling is improving week by week and the clean dry ball allowed for some much more confident passing and catching in the games. At this age-group there is record kept of the scores since it is all about enjoying the game and having fun. The rain held off and it was a great day all round.

The U8s play with 6-a-side and the U7’s with just 4. The Wigton teams were represented by:

George Lister
Jimmy Warwick
Reuben Massey
James Farrimond
Henry Thompson
Alex Stevens
Rory Irving
Oscar Massey
Bella Tiffin-Lowe
Archie Marsden

Well done to them all and a big thank you to parents who travelled and help supervise the kids through the day. Those who stopped on for the Falcons match were treated to a fantastic home win against the Harlequins.

The U8’s next fixture is this coming weekend away at Aspatria.
